Guard is not a position.
It is a theory of control.
Guard Theory is a no-gi apparel brand for people who treat grappling as a problem to be solved. Premium rash guards, an edited publication about the sport, and no claims we cannot back up.
Edition 001
The first release is in development
A small run of no-gi rash guards, long sleeve and short sleeve. No date is set and we are not going to invent one. The people on the list are told first, before anything is posted publicly.
No photography yet / Edition 001
The idea
Good grappling is not improvisation
Every grip is a claim. Every frame is a boundary. Every angle is an argument about where the next thirty seconds are going to go. The people who look calm under pressure are not calmer than you. They have been here before, at low speed, enough times that the shape is familiar.
That is the whole premise of this brand, and it is why an apparel company publishes a technique library. If we are going to claim that structure beats effort, we should be willing to show our working.
How we approach the product
A rash guard has one job: get out of the way
01 / Failure first
Designed from what breaks
The brief was a list of failures, not a graphic. Sleeves that migrate under a collar tie. Hems that ride during inversions. Shoulder seams that land exactly where an underhook goes.
02 / Nothing to grip
Fit as a defensive property
A sleeve you can ball up in a fist is a handle you are giving away. Fit is decided at the pattern stage and cannot be fixed by choosing a different size.
03 / Month twelve
Judged after the fortieth wash
Prints crack long before fabric fails. Anything that looks good only in the first month is a photograph, not a garment.
No fabric, weight, construction or origin has been finalised, so none is claimed. Everything decided so far, and everything still open, is listed on the Edition 001 page.
The Journal
Writing worth reading on its own terms
Named authors, real dates, listed sources and a public corrections policy. Where history is contested it says so, and where a technique carries risk that is stated rather than buried.
Technique Library
Positions and problems organised by the thing you are trying to solve, not by an alphabetical list of moves.
Influential Figures
An index of people whose work changed the sport. An index, deliberately not a ranking.
Size and Fit
How a rash guard should actually fit, and how to measure yourself properly.
Edition 001
Be told when it is real
One message when the date is set. One when it goes live. No discount bait, no drip sequence, no fake urgency, and no countdown until there is something to count down to.
